Nu Genea is the artistic project from musicians/djs Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina. The inspirational key comes from a historiographic investigation on dance music since its first steps: following the music routes around the world, Nu Genea collected the sonic echoes that, through the centuries, have touched the shores of Napoli, their hometown and inexhaustible source of cross-cultural sensitivity.

Their meticulous research stands out for exploring uncharted territories, scouring the music from the past and elaborating it in an original groovy equation fully pervaded by disco, funk, boogie, electronic, dub, folk and much more. 

After the success of the album The Tony Allen Experiments (2016), a collaboration with Tony Allen - original drummer of Fela Kuti - they released Nuova Napoli (2018) on their label NG Records, a heartfelt tribute to their city: synthesizers fill the spaces between past and future, bringing together acoustic instruments, electronics and voices in Neapolitan language. 

In 2022, Nu Genea opened a new chapter with the acclaimed album Bar Mediterraneo, a sonic crossroads where cultures meet like travellers at a timeless bar. Mixing Gulf of Naples warmth with influences gathered across the Mediterranean basin, the album expands their signature sound into a more cinematic, multicultural dimension: hypnotic grooves, acoustic colours, heartfelt melodies and a vivid sense of shared humanity. Bar Mediterraneo reaffirmed their role as one of the most original acts in contemporary world-groove, earning international praise.

Nu Genea live band toured prestigious clubs and festivals worldwide — from Sónar in Spain to Meredith in Australia, from Queremos! in Brazil to Rock en Seine and Le Louvre in France. Their shows have thrilled audiences with the powerful energy of the full band on stage and with their sophisticated musical selection, delivering authentic and unusual DJ-sets.
