35 NEW NAMES FOR PUKKELPOP!
Today 35 new names join our line-up! Including Violet Grohl, Jalen Ngonda, MEROL, Basement, Ravyn Lenae, The Subs, Audrey Nuna, NU GENEA Live Band and Earl Sweatshirt + MIKE.
FRIDAY 21 AUGUST
If there were a hotline for “criminal amounts of talent on one line-up”, we would have blown the whistle already. Yes, hello? Friday, unfortunately completely sold out, so apologies to fans of Alessi Rose’s confessional pop and fellow pop star in the making Chloe Qisha.
BLOND:ISH is so much more than a DJ, blending music, wellbeing, technology and eco activism through her Sustainable Raving movement. Basement’s back (alright!) and the bro’s are bringing their fifth album Wired along. Earl Sweatshirt, once spotted by our Sunday headliner Tyler, The Creator, arrives together with longtime collaborator and lo fi rap main character MIKE.
Still on the line with hype magnet Hudson Freeman, the indie rock philosopher who accidentally went viral, even if that almost sounds like a cliché these days. Neo soul, old spirit Jalen Ngonda will present his freshly released second album Doctrine of Love. British dubstep pioneer Mala is confirmed too. As is MEROL, who would win gold if stirring things up were an Olympic discipline.
Lastly, Australian producer Ninajirachi with a sound balancing underground and mainstream, Nxdia bringing personal alt pop for the internet generation, Sef (one half of IJSLAND) proving that dancing and crying can happily coexist, and Surusinghe, DJ, producer and full blown genre shapeshifter.
SATURDAY 22 AUGUST
Also found in the secret contacts list (and oh yes, sorry, Saturday is sold out too): DJ, producer and buff icon in the making bullet tooth, the intense blackgaze of Deafheaven, and Elmer taking a razor to manhood with raw hip hop electronics and a stick on moustache. Gurriers: Irish five-piece channeling frustration into furious punk.
Looking for summer grooves and sunny vibes? Head to Leisure. Heartbreak on repeat? Love Spells is the recommended soundtrack. Maruja will do the job too. Still under the M: Maan, one of the Netherlands’ most successful pop exports. Pizza Napoletana is UNESCO heritage and NU GENEA Live Band bring the kind of rich Mediterranean grooves that could become the next Neapolitan classic.
Kiewit’s Next Top Party comes courtesy of the American hip hop duo PARTYOF2. Show Me The Body call on their CORPUS fam in the Limburg area. Skye Newman is a young British singer songwriter and one of the most exciting new names on the UK scene. And The Subs return with Substance, their first album in ten years! Rave energy straight from the dancefloor to the core of your soul.
SUNDAY 23 AUGUST
In line with reporting protocol, we are obliged to confirm that Sunday is completely sold out as well. The 19 year old American singer Violet Grohl grew up with a record collection as her playground. From singing along to Beatles vinyl in her bedroom to writing her first song at twelve. From small clubs to bigger stages, Violet is ready for what comes next.
Korean American rapper Audrey Nuna is currently two of the most streamed artists in the world. Say what? Yes. On the one hand as herself, on the other as Mira, a member of the fictional group Huntr/x from K-Pop Demon Hunters.
BLUAI bring songs from their beautiful new album Sober, not to be confused with SOMBR, who plays later that evening. Ravyn Lenae is here for lovers of dreamy R&B and alt soul. Fragile and beautiful has a new golden boy and his name is Iskander Moon. Suited spoken-word crooner Baxter Dury returns with a sharp, cynical take on the world.
Shaking Hand lean into slow burning, layered post rock. And “Let’s give them something fun to talk about,” said SPRINTS frontwoman Karla Chubb. From there it is only a short step to the American hardcore punk band Trash Talk.
More names coming soon.
