Belgian indie duo Kids With Buns, formed by Marie Van Uytvanck and Amber Piddington after an impromptu collaboration in 2019, rose quickly from local competitions to winning Studio Brussel’s De Nieuwe Lichting in 2021. Known for their intimate “sad bangers” blending deep vocals and melodic guitars, they evolved from bedroom pop to a fuller indierock sound, performing at major festivals like Pukkelpop, touring internationally, and supporting acts such as Balthazar. Their debut album Out of Place (2023) explores themes of teenage angst, identity, queerness, relationships, and mental health, drawing inspiration from artists like Girl in Red and Phoebe Bridgers. Written and partially self-produced in a home studio, the record captures the feeling of being “out of place” while offering comfort to listeners navigating life’s challenges.
