Pukkelpop can’t go forth

Pukkelpop is in deep mourning. We truly sympathise with the families and friends of the victims.

Words are not enough. We have struggled with the decision to continue the festival. Therefore we have decided to cancel Pukkelpop 2011.

What has happened is very exceptional and could not have been predicted. We are deeply moved by all the spontaneous support the festival goers and the organisation have received.

We call on all Pukkelpoppers to return home calmly. Extra buses and trains have been organised to bring everybody home.

Undoubtedly many of you have many practical questions. That is why we ask you to direct them to info@pukkelpop.be.

We ask everyone to understand that this decision was extremely difficult to make.

If there comes the fund for the victims of Pukkelpop, then Pukkelpop can take the money for my ticket and put it in that fund. And yes, if there is a Pukkelpop 2012, then I get a ticket for the event.

And as for those 'dollar' comments... The Pukkelpop organization is a foundation that by its legal status is obliged not to make a profit as such. It is a community based organization that manages to mobilize thousands of volunteers each year, purely for the love of music and young people.

There's a lot of stupid comments here from people that weren't there. I was. This was an absolute freak storm of a magnitude which I've never seen in Belgium. After a scorching day with blue skies there was 10 minutes of a mini tornado that caused a 60 meter wide path of destruction for a few kilometers, with hurricane force wind. Completely unpredictable.
The Pukkelpop festival is one of the best organized festivals in the world and the emergency response was also right on the money.

Its unbelieveble, that some people are really thinking about getting their money back. You guys should be glad not getting injured or worst. That is more worth than money. Your thoughts shouldnt be with your lost money, let your thoughts be with the 5 dead people, who came for the same reason to Pukkelpop like you, for partying. You lost your money, they lost their lives!

It's so normal Pukkelpop cancelled, out of respect for the victims AND for security reasons.
Let's not blame the organizers for what happened, they could never have predicted such an intense storm...
R.I.P to the victims, such a sad story and I truly hope nothing like this will happen again.

Respect for the decision made by the organization, it was the only option left I think...
RIP to all the people who left their lives at PKP, I feel deeply sorry for the friend and of family of those!

@HIT*ER: tell me, how do you live with yourself?

Whether or not there will be refunds will come in time. This tragedy happened less than 24 hours ago, and already people are focusing on this.
Let Pukkelpop organisers deal with the dead, the injured and the shock first, refunds later. I can't believe how heartless some people can be.

Pukkelpop will have to refund let that be clear, €155 x 3 is no laughing matter, let alone the flight tickets that some have to re-purchase to go back home, respect applies to all, hence the mandatory insurances required by professional festival shows, let it be known the festival was paid to be allowed inside and not an open festival.

Sigh think of it this way: yes you all lost money, but i am pretty sure your wounds will heal over time.
The 5 people that lost their life won't be healing anymore.
    Show some respect

We all feel sorry for those who died yesterday. But It is not our fault. We were there also. We didn't cause the storm. Some people saved money during one year to afford this week-end.Do you really think that the good decision is "go back home and act as if nothing happen?".
We could have dedicated the festival to them, celebrate music for them.
It is not more respectfull to cancel everything.
    I agree with respect

Critics needs to be thoughtful when stating their messages.. As everyone is saddened by the tragedy they so much wanted to attend, hence why those allowed in the festival were paying attendees, so critics learn to separate your judgement on what is right and what's is wrong..

Accidents do happen and our condolences on this sad tragedy to all involved, just like a car accident etc, hence why society has insurances to resolve festival attendants who now need to find a resolve, I am sure Pukkelpop will resolve it's immediate with attendees and later take it's claims with it's insurance companies. General rule or standard with any EU standard when hosting mega events...

Pukkelpop should have insurance just like any biz/festival hosting thousands of people, hence why insurance is mandatory, to aid / assist in dramatic situations as this happening...

Respect > such a shame that idiots like you come and claim for money or spectacle when people died or were injuried. There are plenty of good reasons to cancel the festival, even if you left feelings aside, it's sad you can't even think about one or two and come complaining.

Please show some... People die, in case you didn't notice. You wouldn't have reacted the same if you knew any of them!
I would have wanted more concerts as well, of course. But I fully understand and support the festival's decision.

@respect "Such a shame that so many thousands of people who have travelled so far will have to suffer losing all."
Are you serious? None of us can understand what "losing all" is apart from the people who tragically list their lives. What an insensitive statement.
This was the only decision that could've been made.
