Biography

“The first time I played the festival in 1996 I was performing in small club. Pukkelpop was the first time I played a bigger stage. I remember, when dance music was first introduced to major festivals, the clash of styles and music actually made a lot of sense. It made us hungry to prove that this mix could work. Well it did, and it still does.” – Dave Clarke in the ‘Pukkelpop 25’ book.

The innovative way in which Dave Clarke juggles with acid-house, minimal Detroit techno and sinister sub-funk earned him, with reason, the nickname Baron of Techno. His energetic DJ sets are a perfect illustration of his skilful mixes and cuts & scratches. Clarke brilliantly takes on the role of a snake charmer and has the audience literally dance to his tune. Yet he deliberately remains an outsider in the techno scene, "I may be established but I'll never be establishment." That’s the spirit, Dave!
