History Blonde Redhead
Biography
For more than fifteen years Blonde Redhead has occupied a special place in the American underground scene. Kazu Makino’s distinctive voice is still accompanied by the Italian twins Simone and Amadeo Pace. In the 90s they played noise rock à la Sonic Youth, their musical heroes, but the passing years have made their music sound fuller and warmer. On their latest album, ‘Penny Sparkle’, they have really reinvented themselves. “I fell in love with the music like falling for someone you’ve known for a long time”, Makino said about their new record. Drum and guitars are often substituted by synthesizers, which is clearly the result of their cooperation with the Swedish producer duo Van Rivers & The Subliminal Kid (see Fever Ray). Will ‘Sparkle’ be able to spark the enthusiasm of the Pukkelpop crowd? Don’t you dare doubt it!
